A Code of Practice: Rights of Access plus case studies on types of premises were prepared as guidelines to implementing the DDA. The studies are now handled by the EHRC.

Standards for access

The provisions of the EA are implemented through the Building Regulations : Part M Access to and the use of Buildings.

British Standard 8300:2001 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people, is quoted extensively in access for disabled people. The recommendations are primarily for new buildings but can apply to existing buildings.

Information on the Equality Act

There's lots of general information relating to the EA around although it's not always easy to read.

Some References to Equality Legislation, associated Regulations, Standards and advisory documents are given on the right. They have been used in the preparation of this website and form the basis of the access information AccessOK provides.

We don't claim this to be a complete list but, nevertheless, it will provide the businessman with a grounding on the subject of access for disabled and elderly people.
